A Message From Our Pastor

Hello!

My name is Ken Brown!  I am pleased to be your next appointed pastor to your charge.

to start off with, I am 58 years old and was raised in the Mountaintop area of Luzerne County.  I am married to my wife, Kathy, for 18 years and we have 3 children and 4 grandchildren.  My children live in the states of Montana and Pennsylvania.  My wife works from home as a customer service representative for Empower, which used to be called Prudential Retirements.  Kathy has an extensive background with financial and retirement systems and currently holds a Series 7 license.  We also have a dog named Bandit and a cat named Wednesday.

I have been a pastor for 23 years, 20 of those within the United Methodist Church.  I have seerved the Church of Christ Uniting in Kingston, PA as an associate pastor; the Maple Grove charge in Sweet Valley/Pikes Creek, PA as pator; the Richfield charge in Richfield, PA as pastor; the Noxen charge in Noxen, PA as pastor; and now your charge.  I have been involved with Kairos Prison Ministry at the Waymart SCI prison and the Allenwood FCC prion systems.  My wife, Kathy, and I are also involved with the Emmaus community.

For leisure time, I like to ride my Harley Davidson motorcycle and read.  I enjoy spending time with my family and pets.  I love spending time watching crime shows on television too!

I have a diverse background in employment.  I graduated from high school with a degree in welding and got hired immediately out of school.  I entered the U.S. Air Force in 1984 as a security police officer and was assigned bases in Rome, NY; San Antonio, TX; Camp Bullas, TX; Little Rock, AR; Kusan AB, Republic of South Korea; and Charleston, SC.  After being discharged in SC, I began emplyment as a city police officer in the town of North Charleston, SC, where I worked as a motorcycle traffic officer for 5 years.  I then moved back to PA to be closer to family and was employed by Air Products and Chemicals as a welder, then promoted to production supervisor.  I later moved to prcess engineering, where my charrer changed again with my call to ministry.

When God called me to be a pastor, I knew that I found my life's purpose and have enjoyed every minute of this lefe ever since.  God is so wonderful, loving, and faithful to His promises that I do not doubt his call on my life.  I look forward to continuing to live out my call to pastor with you.

On a "wow" note, my mother grew up in this area and was a member of the Windfall Church.  Her maiden name was Judity Shoemaker, and she was a resident of Granville Summit.  There are still some family members living in this area today.  I already feel a connection to all of you, because I don't believe in coincidences.  God has designed this time for all of us.

On behalf of my family, I want to express my joy in moving to your churches/charge.  God is doing something new, and I am excited to be doing it with you!

In Christian love,

Pastor Ken and Kathy Brown
